Ultimately the meaning of our spirituality is realized through the practice of finding meaning in every-day living.
In spiritual practice we aren’t learning how to turn off our emotions: that’s not real. Instead we’re learning the skills to be okay while we feel them.
Perhaps the greatest lesson came in seeing my nephew as more than a little boy — in looking past his age and stature — and finding a teacher.
Happiness, patience, peace of mind, self-love and the other states of being that we say we want to experience, are skills … skills that must be developed over time.
Without a daily practice we forget our true nature, just like I forgot the voice of my mom…
